My Story
Katy Thoroughman
Katy Thoroughman grew up in Tomball, Texas, and started dancing at a young age. After graduating high school, as part of the Klein Oak Dance Company, she continued her dance education and training at Sam Houston State University. Graduating in three and a half years, she received her BFA in Dance Performance with honors. She was taught under multiple award-winning choreographers and was able to participate in master classes from choreographers and teachers from NYC, LA, and Italy.
Katy has received awards for her choreography throughout her life. She was chosen to present works at the Generation Next Choreographers in 2010. Her senior choreography project at Sam Houston State University was also nominated to go to the American College Dance Association Gala. After college, she has worked with dance studios in Texas and her choreography for groups, solos, and ensembles have won multiple choreography awards. Many soloists that Katy has worked with have received first place in their age divisions.
Katy has a love for teaching and works with many different aspects of dance. During her time at SHSU, she worked in the public school system integrating dance in elementary education. She also was fortunate to work with the Houston Ballet in their adapted dance program, helping children with special needs.
In 2022, Katy founded the award winning Rusk High School Eagle Belle drill team. As the Director and Coach of the Eagle Belles, Katy has trained dancers from all types of backgrounds. Through her passion for technique and hard work has accrued many first place overall team awards at contests. She prides herself in her team and continues to build the Belle's legacy.
